Project Bag Class

Sewing and quilting combine to create this wonderful project bag.
Are you a handwork enthusiast? Cross Stitch? Wool Applique? English Paper Piecing? Embroidery? These project bags are perfect for carrying your project with you to stitch on – in the car – at the grandchild’s ballgame – by your side on the couch in the evening.

In this class not only will you leave with a finished project bag and tons of ideas for more – but you will also learn some skills:

  • Quilting with a walking foot
  • Inserting a zipper
  • Machine binding

Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details:
Requirements: Supply list: • Front of bag: o One piece approximately 15 inches wide and 12 inches high. This can be a single piece of your favorite fabric or an orphan block that you add to to get to the size, or a panel block that size (or again add to it like my Bee Bag above). o A second piece approximately 15 inches wide and 3 inches high. I like to use a coordinating or a contrasting fabric. • Back of bag: One piece of coordinating or contrasting fabric 15 inches by 15 inches. • Inside of bag (front and back): ½ yard of fabric - can coordinate or muslin will work. • Binding: two 2 ½ inch strips cut width of fabric and one 2” strip cut width of fabric. I like these to either coordinate or contrast with the front fabrics. • One 16” (or longer) nylon zipper that matches the fabrics in your bag. • Batting: since I have a ton of batting pieces left over from my longarm career I will supply your batting. • Thread to match for quilting and inserting the zipper • Sewing machine in working order. Always bring your machine manual to a class!! • Walking/even feed foot for successful quilting. I use if for the entire bag construction – even the zipper. • Basic sewing notions – pins, rulers, snips, etc. • Rotary cutter Ruler – I use my 8 by 24 one for this project but bring one that will allow you to trim the sides after quilting. Erasable marker (air or heat erasable)
